Week 01b - 09.30 Wed - P05: Finish up software installs, jpa00, jpa01; start jpa02

Today we’ll try to finish up our software installs, plus jpa00 and jpa01, and then start on jpa02.

The deadlines for jpa00, jpa01, and jpa02 are a few days away, but we want to encourage you to start your work well in advance of the deadlines.

In the case of jpa00 and jpa01, they typically go quickly; it’s entirely reasonable that you might finish both of them within one discussion section.

jpa02, on the other hand, may take a bit more time and thought. The sooner you start, the better.

Participation Assignment P05

For today’s participation assignment, please:

  • Make a post on slack indicating where you are with jpa00,jpa01,jpa02. For example:
    • Finished with jpa00, working on jpa01
    • Still working on jpa00
    • Finished with jpa00 and jpa01, working on jpa02
    • Haven’t started jpa00; still working on software installs.
  • Submit a link to that Slack post as P05 on Canvas.
  • In addition: please make at least an initial submission for jpa00 by 11:59pm, or else explain on your team slack channel what problems you are running into with that.

For full credit:

  • Make the slack post, submit the link on Canvas, and at least start jpa00 (or explain why you haven’t).
  • If you make the slack post, but don’t submit the link on Canvas, it will be a 10 point deduction.
  • If you haven’t started jpa00 and also don’t make a post explaining why, it will an additional 10 point deduction.

Looking ahead

Tomorrow, in lecture (week 2 Thursday) I’ll briefly go over the principles underlying jpa02:

  • Framework coding (e.g. Spring Boot)
  • Unit testing (e.g. JUnit)
  • Code coverage tools (e.g. Jacoco)
  • Mutation testing (e.g. which are the contents of .

It’s a bit more challenging that jpa00 and jpa01, and may take you longer to finish.

Please understand that even if you are done with installation, jpa00, jpa01, and jpa02, you still need to show up to help your fellow team members.

You have a stake in ensuring that everyone on the team is up to speed and ready to help contribute to the team projects as soon as possible.

So please do come to class, and help your fellow team members.

If/when all six team members are done with jpa00, jpa01, jpa02 you may leave early, but only then.
